Sure, you may have great entertainment at the reception, but it’s not likely that you’ll hang a framed portrait of the wedding band over your fireplace mantle (if you do, they were obviously fantastic). A smart exercise plan combined with savvy eating, stress management, and quality sleep will guarantee that you look beautiful when it counts. Goal:

  • Shape and firm your hips and thighs.

Starting Position:

  • Stand with good posture, with your belly button drawn in.
  • Perform a Kegel contraction (tighten the muscles you’d use to stop the flow of urine; hold).
  • Place your feet wider than your hips.
  • Stand on the balls of your feet with your toes straight ahead.
  • Position your hands behind your head, but do not interlock your fingers.

Technique:

  • Bend your hips and knees (imagine you’re sitting on a chair) until your thighs are almost parallel to the floor.
  • Keep your back flat, chest up, and abdomen tight.
  • Explode up from your hips and legs.
  • Extend your ankles, knees, and hips in a straight line (triple extension)
  • Land in an athletic stance with your hips and knees bent; reset and repeat for the required repetitions.

Coaching Tip:

  • Squeeze your buttocks (glutes) at the top of the movement.
